Mark Bakkum
Founder, Treasurer
Mark is a retired semiconductor industry executive with more than 40 years of leadership experience. Today, he remains deeply engaged in his community through purposeful volunteer work and service. For over 20 years, Mark has been a steadfast advocate for the drug and alcohol recovery community, including a two-decade tenure on the Board of Directors for the Fellowship Center helping guide its mission of hope. When he isn’t volunteering, you can find him outdoors hiking and biking.
James Peterson
Co-founder, President
James is a lifelong entrepreneur, inventor and senior executive in the technology industry. He has over two decades of sobriety and loves working with other alcoholics. James is a voracious reader and enjoys music, art, daily workouts, and outdoor adventures.
Dr John Chisholm
Co-founder, Secretary
John is a retired physician who practiced in the South Bay region of San Diego for 35 years. He has been clean and sober for many years and now spends much of his time helping others to recover. He is a father and grandfather. He also enjoys all outdoor activities especially surfing, hiking and triathlon.
Vanessa Rojas
Board Member-at-Large
Vanessa Rojas is a higher education student and works full-time at FAMM (Families Against Mandatory Minimums), where she advances sentencing reform and supports individuals and families impacted by incarceration. She serves on the planning team for the Western Region Reentry Summit and contributes to a national reentry think tank dedicated to improving reentry outcomes through collaboration, innovation, and systems change.
Having overcome childhood trauma, addiction, abuse, incarceration, and the challenges of reentry, Vanessa has become a nationally recognized reentry expert and advocate. She believes integrity has the power to heal and that accountability, education, and second chances create stronger families, safer communities, and lasting change. Her life reflects the limitless potential of recovery, and she is committed to ensuring people with lived experience help shape the systems that impact their lives.
